Yuji Itadori, a student who lives in Sendai with his grandfather, is unnaturally fit for high school. Despite his natural talent for competition, he regularly avoids the track crew because of the time it takes. Rather, because of the freedom that allows him to attend, he decides to join the Occult Study Club, visiting his dead grandfather every single day in his hospital. His grandfather instilles on his deathbed two powerful messages inside Yuji: “always help people” and “die surrounded by people” These two thoughts seem to derive from the regrets of his grandfather. Yuji interprets these messages as one declaration after the death of his grandfather: “a proper death” is worth everyone.
He is then met with Megumi Fushiguro, a sorcerer who in his school tells him of the recently made contact with a high-grade cursed charm talisman. The rotting finger of his friends at the Occult Club unsealed Curses, beings that are formed by negative emotions and enhanced by absorbing mystical forces that are present in the sorciers or other charms. Unable to fight the Curses, Yuji swallows his fingers to shield Megumi and his friends and is the host of Ryomen Sukuna, a heavy curse. He is not able to defeat them. Because of the wicked nature of Sukuna, all sorcerers must exorcise him immediately (and, as a result, Yuji). Yuji is now able to maintain power of his body for the most part, but he is still possessed. Seeing that, Megumi’s teacher Satoru Gojo wanted to take him to the Jujutsu High School in Tokyo to suggest a scheme to his superiors. It was a matter of postponing Yuji’s death sentence to eat all Sukuna’s fingers, making him once and for all to destroy Sukuna.
