Grotesque, for many years monsters similar to Godzilla, named ‘kaijuu,’ have appeared in Japan. A military elite unit known as the Defense Corps risk their own lives every day to protect civilians in order to fight against this animal. When a creature is murdered, “sweepers”—worked under the Kaijuu Cleaner Professional Corporation—are left to dispose of their remains.
Kafka Hibino, 32, is unhappy with his work as a baby sweeper. He aspired to join the Defense Corps from a young age and kill kaijuus for a lifetime. However, following some failed attempts, he abandoned his dreams and resigned himself to the mediocrity of the paycheck. Nevertheless, Kafka is again reminded of his desire to join the military by joining the ambitious 18-year-old recruit Leno Ichikawa in his cleaning team.
