Read More About Kaiju No. 8
The Japanese manga series Kaiju No. 8, also known as Monster #8, was written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. Since July 2020, Shueisha’s application and manga website Shonen Jump+ has been serialized for free. The series was licensed by Viz Media for English publication in North America.
For many years, grotesque monsters known as “kaijuu” (including Godzilla) prowled throughout Japan. Members of the defense corps, a military elite unit, risk their lives every day to protect civilians and combat these beasts. When a creature is killed, it is left behind for “sweepers,” or Professional Kaijuu Cleaner employees.
Kafka Hibino, 32, is dissatisfied with his job as a street sweeper. He aspired from a young age to join the Defense Corps and kill Kaijuus in order to start a new life. After a couple of failed attempts, he abandoned his ambitions and settled for the mediocrity of a decent salary. Kafka is reminded of his desire to rejoin the military when an ambitious 18-year-old employee named Leno Ichikawa joins his team for clean-up.
Following a manga of unfortunate events and interactions with the junior bird, Kafka comes into contact with a parasite kaijuu who forces his way through his mouth and transforms his body into the humanoid monster. Kafka wishes to give his lifelong dream one last shot with his new abilities.
