IS MY TWO LIVES INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY?
No, My Two Lives is not based on a true story. It is an original script written by April Prosser. The story focuses on Natalie’s journey, and although her story takes two different directions, we discover that things end well for her, regardless of the path her life takes.
For director Wanuri Kahiu, whose first foray into Hollywood as a filmmaker, the story was very close, as she experienced something similar with her own pregnancy, which was the point where her life changed. By revealing this story, the filmmakers wanted to convey the message that life should be lived with no regrets, no matter what decisions are made.
Since the critical event in the story takes place around the protagonist’s pregnancy, it also has a particular meaning in today’s America. Taking all this into account, we can say that although My Two Lives is not based on a real story or book, it takes a very realistic approach to Natalie’s decisions and offers a very comforting and positive message to the public.
