One Piece

One Piece is a manga by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997, and it has compiled into 98 tankōbon volumes. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gains rubber powers. Luffy with his crew of pirates “Straw Hat Pirates” explores the “Grand Line” in hopes of getting his hands on One Piece in order to become the Pirate King.

The manga series has grown into a multimedia franchise which includes several films, an anime series, and other merchandise. Moreover, Toei has produced fourteen animated films, one original video animation, and thirteen television special. Several companies have had success with merchandising and multimedia, such as a trading card game and several computer games. The manga was licensed to various English language speaking countries by Viz Media. 4Kids licensed the Japanese animated series, and was later replaced by Funimation.

One Piece has been praised for its art, characterization, humor, and story. Some volumes of this book have experienced the highest initial print sales of any book in Japan. The manga series One Piece has won the Guinness World Record for “the most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”. In February 2021, the manga series had circulating over 480 million copies globally in 43 countries worldwide. It was again declared the best selling manga for the eleventh consecutive year. One Piece is the most successful media franchise in history.

Synopsis.

The series focusses on Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who set off on a journey from the East Blue Sea to find the titular treasure and proclaim himself the King of the Pirates. In an effort to organize his own crew, Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates go on a wild adventure to find the One Piece. Straw Hat Pirates set off on the adventure to seek their fortune together. They acquired a vessel and set sail to fight pirates. As the rest of the series continue, other characters come along and join Luffy’s journey later on. Once Going Merry is beyond repair, the Straw Hat Pirates obtain another ship, the Thousand Sunny. Buccaneer crew are travelling the seas in pursuit of treasures and adventure.
