The CW’s Naomi, based on the comic book series of the same name, is set outside of the Arrowverse’s realm of influence. Developed by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, the series debuts in 2022.
“Arrow” creators Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship are nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy, respectively, for their work on the DC drama NAOMI, which stars “Army Wives,” “Power,” and Broadway’s “The Lion King” actress Kaci Walfall in the title role.
With the assistance of her fiercely loyal best friend Annabelle and a mysterious supernatural event that rocks their little town of Port Oswego, Naomi embarks on a journey to discover what’s really going on (Mary-Charles Jones, “Kevin Can Wait”). Greg (Barry Watson, “7th Heaven,” “The Loudest Voice”) and Jennifer (Jennifer Garner, “The Loudest Voice”), Greg’s adoptive parents, are also there for her (Mouzam Makkar, “The Fix”).
Weakened by her run-in with mystery man Zumbado (“Filthy Rich” actor Cranston Johnson), Naomi seeks solace in tattoo parlor owner Dee (“Orange is the New Black” actor Alexander Wraith).
In addition to unraveling the mystery of her own identity, Naomi has to deal with her high school friends from the military base and the local community, including ex-boyfriend Nathan (Daniel Puig), Annabelle’s long-term, devoted boyfriend Jacob (Aidan Gemme), proud “townie” Anthony (Will Meyers, “Bad Education”), and fellow comic book enthusiast Lourdes (Camila Moreno), who works in a vintage collectibles shop.
Naomi’s quest for answers takes her to the highest reaches of the Multiverse, where she finds shocking revelations about our heroes. Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship (“Arrow”) wrote and produced NAOMI, which is based on DC Comics characters, while ARRAY Filmworks’ Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes served as executive producers.
The pilot episode was directed and co-executive produced by Amanda Marsalis (Echo Park, Queen Sugar). The show is produced by ARRAY Filmworks and Warner Bros. Television in partnership.
